Doncic Summons Lakers to Slovenia for Pre-Camp Minicamp

Luka Doncic will gather the entire Los Angeles Lakers roster in Slovenia for a four-day minicamp in August, a team source told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
The sessions in Ljubljana are scheduled before the club reports to training camp and will feature on-court workouts, golf outings and local sightseeing aimed at accelerating team chemistry.
With LeBron James departing in free agency, the Lakers now revolve around Doncic, who is assuming many of James’s former leadership duties. James had routinely organized preseason gatherings in Las Vegas; Doncic is moving the tradition to his home country after spending most of the offseason there with his daughters.
The minicamp comes as Los Angeles integrates several newcomers. The front office re-signed guard Austin Reaves, landed center Walker Kessler in a sign-and-trade and added Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Collin Sexton, Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle to round out the depth chart. Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has been linked as a possible final addition, though his status remains unclear.
Thybulle said he spoke directly with Doncic before committing to the Lakers, marking the second consecutive offseason in which the All-Star guard participated in recruiting free agents.
Several Lakers held informal workouts in Las Vegas during Summer League, but Doncic did not attend. The Slovenia trip will be the first time the rebuilt roster trains together under his direction.
