A.J. Lawson Heads to Spain on Two-Year Deal With Baskonia

Guard/forward A.J. Lawson is leaving the NBA for Europe, signing a two-year contract with Spanish club Kosner Baskonia, EuroLeagueBasketball.net reported.
The 26-year-old Canadian spent the past two seasons with the Toronto Raptors, beginning each year on a two-way agreement before earning a standard roster spot late in the season. In 2025-26, he appeared in 24 regular-season games off the bench, averaging 4.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 9.4 minutes while shooting 42.2% from three-point range.
Lawson also saw action in all seven games of Toronto’s first-round playoff series against Cleveland, contributing 1.7 points in 7.3 minutes per contest. His best postseason outing was a six-point, 10-minute effort in the Raptors’ overtime victory in Game 6 that forced a decisive Game 7.
The 6’5" wing spent significant time with Raptors 905 in the G League, posting averages of 21.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals across 36 games (31.9 minutes), while shooting 46.5% from the field and 36.0% from beyond the arc.
Undrafted out of South Carolina in 2021, Lawson previously logged brief stints with the Timberwolves and Mavericks before landing in his hometown of Toronto. He was waived in mid-October of his rookie Raptors season but re-signed two days later on a new two-way contract.
The move to Baskonia marks Lawson’s first professional experience outside North America.
