Los Angeles, July 26, 2026 — Negotiations to bring Jonathan Kuminga to the Los Angeles Lakers through a sign-and-trade have been suspended after the forward’s contract demands exceeded what the team is prepared to offer.
People briefed on the talks said Kuminga’s representatives requested a salary package the Lakers considered too high, stopping progress on the proposed deal. No timetable has been set for discussions to resume.
The Lakers had identified Kuminga as a priority target in their offseason plans, but the current impasse forces the franchise to weigh alternative roster moves while monitoring any change in Kuminga’s stance.
The sign-and-trade cannot move forward unless the two sides reach agreement on both the length and total value of a new contract.
