Oklahoma City has tendered Denver restricted free agent forward Spencer Jones a fully guaranteed two-year, $12 million offer sheet, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The Nuggets have 48 hours to decide whether to match the deal.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the contract is entirely guaranteed. Cap analyst Yossi Gozlan notes that the Thunder are using the taxpayer mid-level exception; if Denver declines to match, Oklahoma City would sit about $840,000 below the league’s second tax apron with 15 guaranteed contracts, triggering a hard cap at that threshold.
The Thunder opened space for the move by sending Isaiah Joe, Aaron Wiggins and Luguentz Dort out in separate salary-dump trades earlier this offseason, collecting seven second-round picks and no incoming players.
Jones became a restricted free agent after Denver extended him a $2.65 million qualifying offer. Two weeks ago, the 23-year-old posted a social-media video indicating he was weighing interest from multiple clubs.
Increased playing time due to injuries thrust Jones into the Nuggets’ rotation last season, and he averaged 5.5 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 39.6 percent from three in 64 games (22.7 minutes). He started 37 contests after appearing in 20 games as an undrafted rookie during the 2024-25 campaign.
Denver’s decision on Jones could be complicated by the unresolved status of fellow restricted free agent Peyton Watson. ESPN’s Bobby Marks calculates that matching the offer would raise the Nuggets’ current luxury-tax bill from $36.4 million to $68.6 million, with a new Watson contract pushing that figure even higher.
