Former Detroit Pistons coach Dwane Casey is being evaluated to lead BC Roma SPQR, a club seeking an expansion spot in the planned NBA Europe league, reporter Marc Stein revealed on social media.
BC Roma SPQR, co-founded by former Dallas Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson and current Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic, is one of several groups awaiting a decision from the NBA Board of Governors on franchise awards for the circuit’s inaugural 2027/28 season.
Casey, 69, last served as head coach of the Pistons from 2018 to 2023, overseeing a full rebuild before moving into an advisory role with the organization. He previously guided the Toronto Raptors from 2011 to 2018 and worked as a Mavericks assistant under Nelson between 2008 and 2011.
While it pursues an NBA Europe berth, BC Roma SPQR will compete in the 2024/25 EuroCup campaign beginning in late September and is also considering European coaching candidates for its first Serie A season, according to Stein.
