LeBron James’ free-agency suspense may end at any moment—or not for a while—according to his agent, Rich Paul.
“It could be 48 seconds, it could be 48 minutes,” Paul said on the Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman, adding that even he has no timetable. “You can’t make somebody know something that they don’t know.”
James, who left the Los Angeles Lakers three weeks ago to test the market, has fielded offers from multiple teams. ESPN continues to list the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat as active suitors.
Paul emphasized that the four-time MVP will not be hurried. “We’re not going to be rushed,” he told Kellerman. “It’s his choice to make, and when he makes the choice, he’ll make it.”
League Waiting—and So Are Other Stars
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently joked that James is “holding up the 2026-27 schedule,” Paul said, recalling a conversation the two had in New York. The agent reiterated that all proposals are on the table and no further sales pitch is necessary.
Front-office inactivity reflects that stance. None of the teams linked to James have made notable roster moves during the past three weeks, and league sources say Draymond Green (Warriors) and James Harden (Cavaliers) are delaying their own contract decisions until James chooses his destination.
Paul dismissed suggestions that the delay is designed to create drama. “We’re not making this about attention and a spectacle,” he said. “It’s a business choice he’s making. Why does an athlete have to rush his choice?”
Until James announces where he will play next season, executives, players and fans remain on standby—whether for 48 seconds or much longer.
