Lakers sign Matisse Thybulle to one-year, $3.3 million contract

The Los Angeles Lakers have reached a one-year agreement worth $3.3 million with free-agent forward Matisse Thybulle, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The 28-year-old guard/forward arrives as another perimeter defender for a roster that has emphasized wing upgrades this offseason. Thybulle joins a group that already features Austin Reaves and newly signed Quentin Grimes.
With Thybulle under contract, Los Angeles now has 16 players on guaranteed deals. NBA rules limit regular-season rosters to 15 guaranteed spots, so the Lakers must waive or trade at least one player before opening night.
Thybulle entered the league with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019 and quickly gained a reputation for his defense. Over 377 career games with the 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers, he has averaged 5.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 20.6 minutes per game.
Injuries limited the former first-round pick to 45 appearances across the past two seasons in Portland, but he rejoined the Trail Blazers’ rotation late last year after recovering from ankle, knee and thumb issues.
