The Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement with forward Matisse Thybulle on a one-year contract worth $3.3 million, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
With Thybulle in the fold, Los Angeles now has 16 players holding guaranteed deals. The team must cut or trade at least one of those contracts before opening night to comply with the NBA’s 15-man roster limit, The Athletic’s Jovan Buha noted.
Thybulle, 29, entered the league in 2019 with Philadelphia and has built a reputation as a premier perimeter defender. Over 377 career games, he has averaged 5.0 points, 1.1 assists and 20.6 minutes.
The 6-foot-5 wing spent the past three and a half seasons with Portland but appeared in only 45 contests over the last two years because of ankle, knee and thumb injuries. He finished the 2025-26 campaign healthy and logged regular rotation minutes for the Trail Blazers down the stretch.
The signing could pave the way for a potential sign-and-trade with Atlanta involving forward Jonathan Kuminga. Moving two players for salary-matching purposes in such a deal would clear a roster spot for Thybulle.
Thybulle joins a revamped Lakers wing group that also features Austin Reaves and recent free-agent addition Quentin Grimes.
