The National Basketball Players Association is pressing to roll back the NBA’s newly installed second luxury-tax apron, calling the measure harmful to both players and fans.

NBPA pushes for changes

New NBPA executive director David Kelly told The Athletic’s Mike Vorkunov that the current system “has gone too far,” arguing that it discourages teams from keeping championship-level rosters intact. Kelly said the union wants the second apron either removed or relaxed to give front offices more freedom to spend on winning teams. He also questioned claims of increased league parity, noting that five different franchises captured titles in the five seasons before the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) took effect.

Union president Fred VanVleet added that preparations for the next round of labor talks are already underway, saying, “We’re getting ready for the next CBA, like today.”

Spurs reaffirm commitment to Fox

The San Antonio Spurs have privately emphasized that guard De’Aaron Fox is not available in trade discussions, according to Jared Weiss of The Athletic. Despite offseason speculation following a disappointing NBA Finals appearance, team officials reportedly view Fox as central to their long-term plans.

San Antonio believes Fox’s late-postseason struggles stemmed largely from the ankle injury he sustained during the playoffs. The organization is also aware that his market value dipped after he shot 35.3 percent upon returning from the injury. Fox began a four-year, $221.7 million extension with the Spurs this season.

Agent defends Young’s new deal in Washington

Trae Young’s agent, Aaron Mintz, rejected the idea that the Washington Wizards overpaid for the point guard’s four-year, $212.8 million contract. Speaking with Mark Medina of Fadeaway World, Mintz cited the importance of elite point guards, noting that the last two NBA champions featured stars at the position.

Mintz added that Young should complement Anthony Davis and rookie Alex Sarr while steering Washington’s youthful roster.
