The NBA has decided not to fine or suspend Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo for last week’s physical confrontation with former teammate Tyler Herro in Las Vegas, according to The Athletic’s Joe Vardon.
An NBA spokesperson told the outlet that, after discussions with both players and the National Basketball Players Association, all parties preferred to “move on” from the incident and that the league would take no further action.
The Heat also have no plans to penalize Adebayo, the Miami Herald reported.
Details of the confrontation
The clash occurred at a gym inside Resorts World Casino. Multiple reports indicated Adebayo punched Herro after objecting to comments the guard had made on social media following his offseason trade from Miami to the Milwaukee Bucks. Herro was struck near the chin and was held back before the situation de-escalated.
Reactions from those involved
Earlier in the week, Herro told ESPN he had “no interest” in prolonging the dispute and is focused on his new team in Milwaukee. Neither the Bucks, Heat nor the NBPA have issued public statements regarding the matter.
Lack of precedent for offseason incidents
While the NBA routinely hands down penalties for on-court fights, offseason altercations away from team activities have typically been handled internally by the organizations involved. Past cases—such as Bobby Portis–Nikola Mirotic in Chicago and Draymond Green–Jordan Poole in Golden State—were primarily addressed by the respective teams.
The league’s decision closes the book on this episode as training camps draw closer.
