LeBron James offered no hint about his next NBA destination on Thursday, declining multiple chances to address his looming free agency while appearing on stage with Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton at Fanatics Fest in New York.
The pair recorded a live episode of “Mind the Game” that ran for more than an hour. Early in the program, Haliburton tried to press James on whether a decision had been made. James responded with a smile and reminded him, “Didn’t we already talk about this in the back?” Haliburton laughed and dropped the subject, saying, “I’ll leave it alone.”
Near the conclusion of the show, Haliburton made one more light-hearted attempt. “Before we leave, is there a decision yet?” he asked, then immediately retracted the question, joking, “I’m kidding. No decision.” James did not elaborate.
When asked to single out his favorite team from his 21-season career, the four-time MVP avoided choosing one roster, instead citing the Miami Heat championship teams, Cleveland’s 2016 title squad, the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2020 champions and even the 2008 U.S. Olympic “Redeem Team.”
James has now spent several weeks politely sidestepping the league’s biggest off-season question. Whether his silence stems from an unresolved choice or a preference for suspense remains known only to him. For now, front offices, coaches, players and fans continue to wait.
