Former San Antonio guard Danny Green said he is “really disappointed” the Spurs decided to terminate team announcer Jacob Tobey after rumors surfaced that Tobey had an intimate relationship with the sister of a current Spurs player.
The three-time NBA champion made the remark on July 13, 2026, shortly after news of Tobey’s dismissal became public. Green, who played for San Antonio from 2010 to 2018, did not defend or deny the accusation itself but questioned the franchise’s choice to cut ties with Tobey before an investigation was completed.
The Spurs have not released a detailed statement explaining the firing. Tobey has also not commented publicly on the allegation. The identity of the player involved has not been disclosed.
Green added that, in his view, the organization should have gathered all relevant facts before acting. “I’m really disappointed,” he said, noting his long-standing respect for the franchise and its usual commitment to due process.
No timetable has been announced for naming a replacement announcer. The team’s preseason broadcast schedule begins in early October.
