Knicks Retain Jordan Clarkson on One-Year Minimum Contract

NEW YORK — Guard Jordan Clarkson has agreed to a new one-year, $3.9 million contract with the New York Knicks, agent Rich Paul told Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the deal is for the veteran minimum, counting roughly $2.45 million against the salary cap. The structure keeps New York below the league’s second tax apron, a target set this offseason by team owner James Dolan.

Clarkson, 34, joined the Knicks on a minimum deal in 2025 after five-plus seasons with the Utah Jazz. Working primarily off the bench for last season’s championship team, he averaged career lows of 8.6 points, 1.3 assists and 17.8 minutes per game, and logged 30 total minutes across five NBA Finals appearances. Despite reduced usage, he supplied scoring punch for the second unit and has opted to stay in pursuit of a title defense in 2026-27.

The Knicks have now re-signed Landry Shamet, José Alvarado, Mohamed Diawara and Clarkson while avoiding the second apron. The lone significant departure is center Mitchell Robinson, who joined the Boston Celtics on a three-year contract worth more than $47 million—an offer New York chose not to match to preserve cap flexibility.

Once Clarkson’s contract becomes official, the Knicks will carry 13 players on standard deals, leaving about $3.27 million below the second apron. That is enough space to add a 14th player immediately, though filling a 15th spot would likely require low-cost rookie contracts later in the season.
