The Los Angeles Lakers officially added forward Sandro Mamukelashvili on Tuesday night, finalizing a deal that multiple reports place at $52 million over four years. The club did not release financial terms.
The agreement was reached on July 1, but league rules allowed contracts to be signed only after Monday. Mamukelashvili, 27, posted on social media shortly before the announcement, calling his move to Los Angeles a “dream come true.”
Part of an offseason overhaul
Mamukelashvili joins a reshaped Lakers frontcourt that has already seen Deandre Ayton traded, Jaxson Hayes sign with the Utah Jazz, and LeBron James depart in free agency. Los Angeles also reached deals for center Walker Kessler in a sign-and-trade with Utah and guards Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton earlier this month.
Team officials believe Mamukelashvili’s perimeter shooting and playmaking will complement Kessler’s interior presence. Depending on additional roster moves, the 6-foot-11 forward could start at power forward or serve as a small-ball center.
Career-best season in Toronto
Last year with the Toronto Raptors, the Georgian native averaged 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 21.9 minutes per game, shooting 52.3 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three-point range—each a career high.
Over five NBA seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs and Raptors, Mamukelashvili has appeared in 271 regular-season games (28 starts), posting career averages of 7.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists while hitting 36.6 percent from beyond the arc. He has played in seven postseason contests.
Draft and early career path
Selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 54th pick in the 2021 draft and immediately traded to Milwaukee, Mamukelashvili signed a two-way contract with the Bucks in August 2023 before being waived the following March. He later spent parts of three seasons in San Antonio prior to his stint in Toronto.
The forward will wear No. 54 with the Lakers.
