The Utah Jazz plan to have veteran forward Kevin Love in attendance when training camp opens next week, according to Grant Afseth of RG.org.
Love, 37, was sent to Utah from Miami in a three-team trade completed in early July. Despite speculation earlier this month that the five-time All-Star would seek a buyout and avoid joining the rebuilding Jazz, the organization has not engaged in substantive buyout talks and is moving forward under the assumption he will report, Afseth noted.
The former NBA champion is entering the final season of his contract, valued at $4.15 million. Utah officials view his expiring deal as a potential trade asset and believe his experience, professionalism and leadership could benefit a roster anchored by younger players.
Last season with the Heat, Love appeared in 23 games and averaged career lows of 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 13.4 minutes per game. Even with limited on-court expectations in Utah, playoff hopefuls are expected to monitor his status in case buyout negotiations eventually materialize.
