Nikola Jokic rejects talk of stalling on new Nuggets contract

Denver — Nikola Jokic on Monday pushed back against widespread speculation that he is intentionally putting off a highly lucrative contract extension with the Denver Nuggets.
The All-NBA center told reporters the ongoing conversations about a new deal are “normal business” and emphasized that no rift exists between him and the organization. “I’m not holding anything up,” Jokic said, adding that both sides remain in regular contact.
Reports last week suggested the proposal on the table would be one of the richest in league history. Jokic, however, insisted he is unconcerned with public estimates and is focused on preparations for the upcoming season. “The numbers will take care of themselves,” he noted.
Team officials have not commented publicly on the pace of negotiations, but league sources confirmed the Nuggets hope to finalize an agreement well before training camp opens this fall.
