NBA Roundup: Jokic to Delay New Deal, Portland Eyes Wing Depth, Charlotte Releases Evbuomwan

Nikola Jokic intends to wait until the 2025 offseason before signing his next contract, the Denver Nuggets center said Monday.
Speaking to Marko Ljubomirovic of Admiral Bet, the three-time NBA Most Valuable Player reiterated that he expects to spend his entire career in Denver but will postpone any agreement until next summer. Salary-cap analyst Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron noted that if Jokic were to hold off until 2027, he would qualify for a five-year maximum deal instead of a four-year extension. Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that securing that additional year later in his career is a significant factor in the decision-making process.
Trail Blazers Assess Roster Balance
The Portland Trail Blazers have been among the league’s most active teams this offseason, acquiring guard Ja Morant, re-signing center Robert Williams III and adding rookie center Branden Carlson. Despite the flurry of moves, Dave Deckard of Blazers Edge wrote that the roster remains guard- and center-heavy while lacking depth at forward.
Deckard suggested that Portland could package one of its younger players for a veteran wing who better complements the current lineup rather than pursuing another marquee name before training camp.
Hornets Waive Tosan Evbuomwan
The Charlotte Hornets placed forward Tosan Evbuomwan, 25, on waivers Monday. The move, first reported last month by Marc Stein of The Stein Line, opens an additional two-way slot as Charlotte finalizes its roster for next season.
Evbuomwan appeared in five NBA games last year but played a key role for the Greensboro Swarm during their run to the NBA G League championship, earning Finals MVP honors in the clinching game.
