The Los Angeles Lakers have reached a four-year, $60 million agreement with free-agent guard Quentin Grimes, adding another key piece to a roster already headlined by the recent acquisition of center Walker Kessler.
Shortly after news of the contract broke on July 1, the 25-year-old posted images of his younger self wearing Lakers colors, highlighting a connection to the franchise that dates back to his childhood in Houston, Texas.
Grimes, whose father was a longtime Lakers supporter, joins a backcourt featuring Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. The 6-foot-5 guard is expected to serve as a third perimeter option, offering shooting, slashing and the ability to create his own offense.
Acquired by the Philadelphia 76ers midway through the 2025 season, Grimes averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 103 games as both a starter and reserve. He now reunites with head coach Darvin Ham in Los Angeles as the Lakers seek to contend for the 2026-27 NBA championship.
Grimes comes from an athletic family; his half-brother, Tyler Myers, is a defenseman for the NHL’s Dallas Stars.
Additional backcourt depth
The Lakers also bolstered their bench by signing point guard Collin Sexton to a two-year contract. The eight-year veteran averaged 15.4 points last season while splitting time between the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls.
With Kessler anchoring the frontcourt and the additions of Grimes and Sexton on the perimeter, Los Angeles continues to reshape its roster ahead of training camp.
