The Chicago Bulls have reached a two-year, $45 million agreement with free-agent guard Norman Powell, Shams Charania of ESPN reported. K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network added that the second season is a team option.

Powell, 33, is coming off back-to-back high-scoring campaigns with the Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat. He averaged a career-best 21.8 points per game for the Clippers in 2024-25, then posted 21.7 points on .470 shooting from the field, .380 from three-point range and .827 at the free-throw line for the Heat last season.

Although injuries have limited the veteran to more than 60 games just once in the past five years, Powell owns a career 39.6% mark from beyond the arc and remains a reliable scoring option when healthy.

Chicago will use available cap space to start Powell’s contract well above the $15 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception. Miami held his Bird rights but could not match the offer because the club is operating close to the first tax apron. A sign-and-trade was not an option; such deals require at least a three-year contract, and the Bulls have sufficient room to sign Powell outright.

The move is expected to consume nearly all of Chicago’s remaining cap space. The Bulls still hold a $9.4 million room exception and have one open spot on the 15-man roster.

The structure of the contract, similar to Bruce Brown’s two-year, $45 million pact with Indiana in 2023, could position Powell as a trade chip ahead of the 2027 deadline if Chicago chooses to explore its options.
