PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns have hired Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash as a senior adviser, team owner Mat Ishbia announced Monday.
“Steve Nash was an amazing player and exactly what the Phoenix Suns are all about,” Ishbia wrote on social media while revealing the move. “His grit, toughness, and winning mentality have defined our organization in the past, and I’m so excited to share that Steve is formally joining the Suns as a senior adviser and will help us define our future for years to come!”
Nash, 51, captured consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player awards with Phoenix in 2005 and 2006 and earned eight All-Star selections during a 19-season playing career. He entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.
After retiring, the Canadian native coached the Brooklyn Nets from 2020 to 2022, compiling a 94-67 regular-season record before being dismissed following a 2-5 start to the 2022 campaign.
Phoenix is looking to rebound from a 36-46 season. The club reshaped its roster this offseason, sending star forward Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets in a trade and agreeing to a contract buyout with guard Bradley Beal.
