Walker Kessler Rejects Report Linking Him to Lakers

Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler pushed back Friday against a report that placed him on the Los Angeles Lakers’ offseason wish list, casting doubt on the prospect of a deal between the Western Conference rivals.

The story, published earlier in the day, suggested the Lakers were exploring ways to acquire the 7-foot-1 rim protector. Hours later, Kessler publicly disputed the claim, saying he had no knowledge of any discussions and reaffirming his commitment to the Jazz.

Kessler, 24, is entering the third season of the rookie contract he signed after being selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. The Auburn product averaged 8.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game last season while appearing in 70 contests for Utah.

The Lakers, coming off a first-round playoff exit, are widely expected to search for additional size and defensive help this summer. Kessler’s denial, however, indicates any talks involving the young center may be premature—or nonexistent.
