The Atlanta Hawks have elected to fully guarantee Buddy Hield’s $9.7 million salary for the 2026-27 season, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Before Monday’s decision, only $3 million of the veteran guard’s deal had been protected. The two sides previously moved the guarantee deadline to give the front office additional flexibility.

Hield, 33, appeared in seven regular-season games and two brief playoff stints for Atlanta last year. Despite the limited role, his reputation as a high-level three-point shooter and the size of his contract could make him a trade asset for salary-matching purposes.

The Hawks have already bolstered their perimeter rotation this offseason by signing CJ McCollum to a one-year extension, drafting Kingston Flemings eighth overall, and agreeing to acquire Aaron Wiggins for two second-round picks.

Depending on the status of free-agent center Jock Landale, Atlanta may still seek additional frontcourt depth. Hield’s guaranteed deal, along with his shooting prowess, could factor into any future moves.

The contract also features a player option for 2027-28 that carries a partial guarantee of roughly $3.14 million.
