Former NBA forward Carmelo Anthony said his lone season with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021-22 stands out as the best of his 19-year career, pointing to efficiency numbers that surpassed any of his previous campaigns.
Speaking on the CTRL the Narrative podcast, the 10-time All-Star explained that statistical advances underline why he values that final year so highly. “If you look at analytics, the Lakers year was one of my best years out of 19 seasons,” Anthony said. He noted that his effective field-goal percentage reached a personal high while he adapted to a smaller role off the bench.
During the 2021-22 season, Anthony averaged 37.5 percent shooting from three-point range, the sixth-best mark of his career, and served primarily as a floor spacer rather than the primary scorer he had been in earlier stops with Denver, New York, Oklahoma City, Houston and Portland. Although the Lakers missed the playoffs, the veteran’s ability to adjust his game on fewer shot attempts marked a professional milestone, he said.
Anthony officially retired after that season and will be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 class. Allen Iverson and Dwyane Wade participated in welcoming him, and the forward used his induction speech to thank his late father and the sport that defined his life.
