The New Orleans Pelicans will not pick up their $8 million team option on Kevon Looney for the 2026-27 season, according to NBA reporter Chris Haynes. The decision will send the veteran center into unrestricted free agency this summer.

Looney, 30, joined New Orleans on a two-year, $16 million contract after spending his first 10 NBA seasons with the Golden State Warriors. In his lone campaign with the Pelicans, he appeared in 21 games and averaged 2.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists across 14.7 minutes per contest.

The 6-foot-9 big man, known for his screening and offensive rebounding, was originally selected 30th overall in the 2015 draft and won three championships with Golden State. His age and reputation for professionalism could draw interest from teams seeking experienced frontcourt depth.

New Orleans did exercise its $2.3 million option on forward Karlo Matkovic on Thursday. Looney and Matkovic were the only players on the roster with contract options for this offseason.
