New Orleans, LA — Undrafted guard Melvin Council Jr. has reached an Exhibit 10 agreement with the New Orleans Pelicans, his representatives at Seros Partners announced.
Draft analyst Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress confirmed the terms, indicating the 24-year-old will join the club on a non-guaranteed training-camp deal that can be converted to a two-way contract before opening night.
Council’s college career included two seasons in junior college followed by stints at Wagner and St. Bonaventure before a graduate-transfer move to Kansas. As a senior with the Jayhawks in 2025-26, the 6’3″ guard started all 35 games and averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 steal across 34.8 minutes.
Sam Vecenie of The Athletic rated Council No. 81 in his 2026 draft guide, praising his athleticism and competitiveness while noting the need for improved perimeter shooting. Over the past three seasons, Council shot .405 from the field, .291 from three-point range and .775 at the free-throw line. ESPN’s Jeremy Woo placed him No. 96 on his pre-draft big board.
The Exhibit 10 contract allows Council to earn a bonus of up to $91,000 if he is waived before the season and then spends at least 60 days with the Laketown Squadron, the Pelicans’ NBA G League affiliate.
