Five franchises have wrapped up their key summer moves, and early assessments reveal sharply different outlooks for the Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks.

Miami Heat — Grade: C+

Miami added guard Norman Powell, rookie playmaker Kasparas Jakucionis (No. 20 pick) and forward Simone Fontecchio. Sharpshooter Duncan Robinson, veteran big man Kevin Love and swingman Kyle Anderson exited. The roster now centers on Tyler Herro, Powell, Andrew Wiggins, rookie center Kelel Ware and Bam Adebayo as the club transitions from the Jimmy Butler era. Head coach Erik Spoelstra enters camp without the trade speculation that surrounded previous seasons.

Dallas Mavericks — Grade: B+

The Mavericks’ offseason pivoted when they won the draft lottery and selected forward Cooper Flagg No. 1 overall. Free-agent guard D’Angelo Russell was signed to handle playmaking duties while Kyrie Irving recovers from a torn ACL, with the understanding Russell will move to a reserve role once Irving returns. Spencer Dinwiddie departed in free agency. Flagg’s arrival provides a long-term cornerstone after the earlier trade that sent Luka Dončić elsewhere.

Chicago Bulls — Grade: D

Chicago selected high-upside forward Noa Essengue in the draft and signed wing defender Isaac Okoro. The club parted with guard Lonzo Ball without acquiring additional draft assets, an approach similar to last year’s Alex Caruso departure. Contract talks with guard Josh Giddey remain unresolved, and veteran center Nikola Vučević is still on the roster amid speculation about a rebuild.

Sacramento Kings — Grade: C-

Sacramento brought in guard Dennis Schröder, draft picks Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud, and forward Dario Šarić. Center Jonas Valančiūnas and wing Jake LaRavia left. The lineup now features scorers Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis, raising questions about ball distribution and defense. Malik Monk has surfaced in trade rumors, and second-year forward Keegan Murray faces limited offensive opportunities in the current configuration.

Atlanta Hawks — Grade: A-

Atlanta capitalized on Boston’s roster shake-up to acquire center Kristaps Porziņģis and added guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker, shooter Luke Kennard and No. 13 pick Asa Newell. Departures included center Clint Capela, wings Caris LeVert and Terance Mann, and forwards Larry Nance Jr. and Georges Niang. Health remains the key variable for Porziņģis, while forward Jalen Johnson enters a pivotal season. Even so, the revamped roster positions the Hawks to pursue home-court advantage in a reshaped Eastern Conference.
