Speculation swirled online Wednesday after NBA insider Chris Mannix mentioned that Boston is gauging potential trade scenarios involving All-Star wing Jaylen Brown. During an appearance on NBC Sports Boston, Mannix said several league executives believe the Celtics are “listening” to calls and compiling their own list of possible returns.

Mannix noted that one name surfaced repeatedly in his conversations: Cleveland forward/center Evan Mobley. According to Mannix, the 7-footer “fits the archetype” of the defensive-minded frontcourt player Boston may seek if it decides to move Brown.

Despite the chatter, league sources indicate Cleveland has no intention of parting with Mobley. The Cavaliers regard the 25-year-old as a cornerstone, viewing him as a likely 2025 Defensive Player of the Year candidate and a key reason the club has risen among Eastern Conference contenders.

Mobley, already one of the NBA’s premier rim protectors and switch defenders, is entering the prime of his career. While any front office will take calls, there have been no known discussions between Boston and Cleveland regarding a Brown-for-Mobley framework, and no evidence the Cavaliers are actively exploring such a move.

Boston is believed to be revisiting every option after failing to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo, but for now Cleveland appears committed to building around its young star.
