The Charlotte Hornets have signed guard Marcus Garrett to a training-camp contract and released forward Brandon Slater, the team said Monday.

League sources indicated Garrett’s deal is expected to be an Exhibit 10 agreement. That structure allows the 25-year-old to earn a bonus of up to $85,300 if he is waived and then spends at least 60 days with the Greensboro Swarm, Charlotte’s NBA G League affiliate.

Garrett went undrafted out of Kansas in 2021 but has appeared in 16 NBA games, logging 12 contests with the Miami Heat as a rookie and four with the Hornets on a 10-day contract last March. Renowned for his perimeter defense, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 10.4 points, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals across 42 G League outings for Greensboro last season.

Slater, who joined the Hornets earlier this week, was released to open a roster spot for Garrett.
