New Orleans is viewed as the most likely destination if the Memphis Grizzlies decide to move point guard Ja Morant, according to NBA reporter Sam Amick. Speaking on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” Amick said the Pelicans and Kings are showing the strongest interest, with the Pelicans “probably” sitting in front. He also noted the Timberwolves as another team monitoring the situation.

Morant, 26, is reportedly dissatisfied in Memphis after a turbulent season marked by clashes with head coach Tuomas Iisalo and the rest of the staff. Limited by elbow and calf injuries, the two-time All-Star appeared in only 20 games and has not suited up since January 21.

The Grizzlies explored trade possibilities before February’s deadline but found a lukewarm market. Concerns about Morant’s recent injuries, off-court issues—he has logged just 79 games across three seasons—and a sizable contract dampened interest. The guard is owed $42.2 million next season and $44.5 million in 2027-28 before hitting unrestricted free agency.

While his stock has dipped, Morant’s 2022 and 2023 All-Star campaigns still resonate with front offices hoping a new environment could revive his form.

Potential Fits

The Pelicans, coming off a 26-56 record and two coaching changes, are believed to be evaluating major roster moves. If Morant arrives, starting point guard Dejounte Murray—under contract for $32.8 million next season with a $30.8 million player option in 2027-28—would likely be traded.

Sacramento, which is expected to add a point guard in the upcoming draft, could pivot to Morant if it addresses another position or wants a veteran to start while its rookie develops. Russell Westbrook filled that bridge role effectively this year, and the Kings may believe Morant can do the same.

Minnesota has surfaced in prior Morant rumors but would need to match salaries to make a deal viable and may be prioritizing alternative targets. Miami and Milwaukee have also been linked to the former No. 2 overall pick.

Morant has spent his entire seven-year NBA career with Memphis.
