Several NBA teams exploring a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo believe the Milwaukee Bucks are demanding an unworkable haul for the two-time MVP, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Executives told Fischer that Milwaukee’s current requests would strip any acquiring franchise of enough talent to remain a title contender. As an example, sources said the Bucks recently asked the Minnesota Timberwolves for more than they sought when Minnesota inquired before the February deadline.
The report adds that the market has been quieter than the Bucks expected. The Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks have not pursued the 10-time All-Star forward.
The Boston Celtics continue to monitor the situation, knowing a package would have to be centered on 29-year-old All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown. League figures told Fischer the Celtics are reluctant to attach significant additional pieces.
Around the league, the sense is that Milwaukee is acting as if it already holds a satisfactory proposal from the Miami Heat and is shopping for stronger alternatives ahead of Tuesday’s first round of the draft. Miami’s framework reportedly includes Tyler Herro, Kelel Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and the No. 13 pick, with additional players or draft selections likely.
No agreement is considered imminent, but rival front offices continue to monitor whether the Bucks soften their stance before the draft clock begins.
