The Golden State Warriors are preparing for the summer under the belief that LeBron James will re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers for what would be his 24th NBA season, ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported.
Team executives have monitored the possibility of adding James for the past two years and remain interested if his talks with the Lakers collapse, according to the report. However, internal information continues to indicate the four-time MVP is likely to remain in Los Angeles.
“Openness does not equal anticipation,” Slater wrote, noting that Golden State’s front office is organizing its offseason strategy as though James will not be available.
The Warriors still face several key roster decisions. The franchise is committed to a win-now approach built around Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler when healthy. Among the pending moves:
- Kristaps Porzingis will enter unrestricted free agency.
- Green holds a $27.6 million player option for next season.
- Al Horford has a $3.9 million player option.
Golden State’s timetable could shift if James unexpectedly leaves the Lakers, but for now, organizational planning is moving forward without banking on that outcome.
