The Utah Jazz hold the No. 2 selection in next week’s NBA Draft but have not settled on which prospect they will choose, according to a report by The Athletic’s Tony Jones.
Team officials are still evaluating three players most often linked to the franchise: AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer. All are considered potential franchise cornerstones, and the front office is weighing arguments for each candidate.
Impact of Washington’s decision at No. 1
The Jazz’s deliberations are partly tied to what the Washington Wizards do at No. 1. Washington has been conducting extensive background work on Dybantsa and Peterson, leaving Utah to monitor which prospect might remain on the board when its turn arrives.
Peterson’s workout absence not a deterrent
Peterson recently drew attention after reports indicated he does not plan to work out for Utah. Sources told Jones the Jazz were neither surprised nor discouraged, noting the organization drafted Ace Bailey last year despite a similar stance from the player’s representatives.
Boozer still in play despite crowded frontcourt
Boozer remains a serious option even though Utah already features established big men Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. Restricted free-agent center Walker Kessler is also viewed as someone the team hopes to retain, yet league observers believe the Jazz value Boozer’s overall talent highly.
Unlikely move to the top spot
There has been periodic speculation that Utah could explore trading up to No. 1—particularly if executives decide Dybantsa is their preferred target—but sources currently view such a move as improbable.
With the draft only days away, Utah continues to sort through its options, keeping Dybantsa, Peterson and Boozer under close consideration before making a final call at No. 2.
