Sources told ESPN that the Chicago Bulls have reached an agreement to name former NBA center Tiago Splitter as the franchise’s next head coach.
The deal is being finalized and an official announcement is expected once contract details are completed, according to the sources. No terms were disclosed.
Splitter, 39, enjoyed a seven-year NBA playing career, highlighted by a championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Since retiring in 2018, he has worked in various developmental and assistant coaching roles across the league.
Chicago opened its coaching search earlier this offseason and met with several candidates before moving to secure Splitter, sources said. He will succeed interim staff leadership and take over a roster headlined by All-Stars Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan.
Splitter is expected to assemble his coaching staff in the coming weeks and join the Bulls’ basketball operations group for draft and free-agency preparations.
