Former NBA guard Danny Green believes LeBron James will narrow his offseason decision to two familiar teams: the Los Angeles Lakers or the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Speaking on ESPN Los Angeles, Green said he is confident the 39-year-old forward will return for a 24th NBA season. “I think he for sure comes back next year,” Green stated, adding that his expectation is “either LA or Cleveland.” The comments were relayed by Cavs Roundtable’s Ashish Mathur.
The Lakers are widely viewed around the league as the front-runners. James has spent the past eight seasons in Los Angeles, and his family is known to enjoy living in Southern California.
Cleveland, however, remains in the conversation. A hometown reunion continues to intrigue fans, especially after the Cavaliers’ run to the Eastern Conference finals ended in a sweep by the New York Knicks. Financial constraints could complicate a return; ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that James is unlikely to accept a major pay cut and the Cavaliers currently lack the salary-cap space to sign him outright.
Speculation about alternative destinations persists—some observers have floated the Golden State Warriors—yet Green maintains the choice will come down to the two franchises most closely tied to James’ career.
James has not set a timeline for announcing his plans.
