Timberwolves Unlikely to Chase Giannis Antetokounmpo, Reporter Says

The Minnesota Timberwolves are not expected to pursue Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, according to Minneapolis Star Tribune reporter Chris Hine.

Hine wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on June 13, 2026, that chatter connecting Minnesota to Antetokounmpo appeared to stem from Milwaukee’s efforts to “drum up more of a market at the 11th hour.” After speaking with league contacts, Hine said any deal sending the two-time MVP to the Timberwolves remains “very unlikely.”

Antetokounmpo, 31, continues to generate widespread trade speculation as the June 23 NBA Draft approaches. The Miami Heat are viewed as a leading suitor, while the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics have also surfaced in rumors. Remaining with the Bucks is still considered a realistic scenario.

Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam told TMJ4 News he hopes to resolve Antetokounmpo’s situation before draft night but emphasized that the organization’s relationship with its franchise player “is very positive” despite external reports.

With less than two weeks until the draft, Milwaukee’s next move—and Antetokounmpo’s future—remain uncertain. For now, Minnesota appears to be out of the running.
