The Charlotte Hornets announced on September 19, 2025, that they have signed forward Brandon Slater and waived guard/forward Keyontae Johnson.
Slater, 26, is a 6’8” forward who went undrafted in 2023 after five seasons at Villanova. He previously inked an Exhibit 10 deal with the Boston Celtics, was released, and spent the 2023-24 campaign in the G League with the Maine Celtics.
Rather than return to the NBA’s development league last season, Slater joined GS Lavrio in Greece’s top division. Across 24 games, he averaged 7.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 19.5 minutes while shooting 44.4 percent from the floor, 34.4 percent from three-point range and 77.1 percent at the line.
The forward most recently played for Charlotte’s entries in the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer Leagues, posting 5.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals over eight appearances (17.7 minutes per game).
Slater temporarily fills the Hornets’ 15th roster spot and is expected to be on an Exhibit 10 contract. If waived and he spends at least 60 days with the Greensboro Swarm during the 2025-26 season, he would be eligible for a bonus of up to $85,300.
