The Dallas Mavericks have not publicly placed Klay Thompson on the trade block, but league observers are monitoring the veteran guard in case the club looks to reshape its roster, according to a report by James Piercey of Dallas Hoops Journal.

Dallas is attempting to stay competitive while also developing 19-year-old forward Cooper Flagg, creating what Piercey describes as a delicate “two-timeline” approach. If the front office decides to pursue future assets, several teams could emerge as destinations for Thompson.

Houston Rockets

Piercey points to Houston as a logical landing spot should the Rockets hunt for additional perimeter shooting. Thompson, 34, is no longer the elite two-way force he was with Golden State, yet his reputation as a floor-spacer and locker-room leader remains intact. Houston also holds a stockpile of draft picks that could appeal to Dallas.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers are another team to watch. Thompson originally signed with the Mavericks to play alongside Luka Dončić, only for Dallas to trade the superstar guard months later. A move to Los Angeles would reunite the sharpshooter with Dončić, and Piercey notes the Lakers continue to search for reliable spacing around their new franchise centerpiece. The two clubs have already discussed other possibilities, including center Daniel Gafford, according to the report.

Golden State Warriors

A sentimental scenario involves a return to the Warriors, where Thompson spent 13 seasons and won four championships with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Whether Golden State would meet Dallas’s asking price is unclear, but Piercey believes the storyline alone guarantees league-wide attention.

For now, Dallas has not signaled a firm intention to trade Thompson. However, with the offseason approaching and the organization weighing short- and long-term goals, the veteran guard is expected to draw interest until the Mavericks clarify their direction.
