Extra security measures at Madison Square Garden for former President Donald Trump’s appearance at Game 3 on June 8 left San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox visibly annoyed.
According to the New York Post, Trump’s attendance prompted the arena to tighten access points and increase the number of security personnel before and during the playoff contest. Fox, now in his first season with San Antonio, said the heightened protocols disrupted the team’s usual pre-game routine and created what he called an unnecessary distraction.
Neither the NBA nor Madison Square Garden officials offered immediate comment on Fox’s complaint. Representatives for Trump also declined to address the player’s remarks.
The Spurs and Knicks will meet again for Game 4 later this week, with no word yet on whether Trump plans to return to the Garden.
