Rapper Fat Joe has come out in defense of New York Knicks owner James Dolan, describing the executive as “very misunderstood” after Dolan once intervened on his behalf during a disagreement that involved Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.
In remarks made public on June 7 2026, the Bronx-born artist said Dolan “had my back” when Gilbert allegedly issued a threat, a gesture Fat Joe credits with shaping his positive view of the Knicks owner.
While specific details of the confrontation were not disclosed, Fat Joe emphasized that Dolan’s private support contrasts with the negative image many fans hold of the longtime Madison Square Garden chief.
Representatives for Dolan and Gilbert have not commented on the rapper’s account.
