New York Knicks swingman Josh Hart on Sunday decried the soaring cost of seats for the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, labeling the prices “ridiculous” and warning that longtime fans are being shut out of the arena.
Speaking with reporters ahead of the championship series, Hart said the secondary-market surge has made it nearly impossible for the team’s most loyal supporters to attend home games. “It’s disappointing when the people who have backed us all season can’t afford to be in the building,” he noted.
Ticket resale sites have listed some lower-level seats in the thousands of dollars, a spike Hart believes undercuts the raucous home-court atmosphere on which the Knicks pride themselves. “We feed off that energy,” he added, “and it’s tough when the crowd doesn’t look like the fans we’ve seen all year.”
The Knicks are making their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999, a run that has reignited basketball fever in New York City—and, according to Hart, driven prices beyond the reach of many of the team’s core followers. The club hosts Games 1 and 2 this week before the best-of-seven series shifts to the opponent’s arena.
