Rookie guard Tyrese Proctor will suit up for the Australian national team next month, giving the Cleveland Cavaliers prospect additional game action before his second NBA season.

Basketball Australia confirmed Proctor’s place on the Boomers roster for two FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifying games in Perth: July 3 against Guam and July 6 versus the Philippines.

The Sydney-born guard, now 20, first appeared for the senior Boomers at 16 during the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers and helped the squad capture the Asia Cup title in 2022. His latest call-up extends a steady rise that continued this year with his debut NBA campaign in Cleveland.

The Cavaliers, coming off an Eastern Conference Finals run, see the extra competitive minutes as valuable for Proctor’s development and their long-term plans.

Australia already holds a 4-0 mark in the current qualifying cycle, has secured a spot in the second round, and enters July ranked No. 6 globally. The 2027 FIBA World Cup is scheduled for Qatar.

“Competing as a Boomer on Australian soil is always special,” head coach Adam Caporn said. “There’s real excitement around this group and the opportunity to play in Perth in front of such a passionate basketball community.”

The upcoming window offers Proctor meaningful offseason competition and a chance to build momentum ahead of training camp in Cleveland.
