The possibility of roster changes for the Los Angeles Clippers has sparked a new hypothetical trade scenario that would place Kawhi Leonard with the Detroit Pistons.
Bleacher Report writer Andy Bailey outlined several potential moves involving the two-time NBA Finals MVP, with one proposal sending Leonard to Detroit. Under the concept, the Pistons would acquire Leonard, and the Clippers would receive Duncan Robinson, Isaiah Stewart, Caris LeVert, projected first-round pick Ron Holland, and a 2031 first-round draft selection.
What the move could mean for Detroit
Landing Leonard would give the Pistons a proven veteran to join forces with young standouts Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren while allowing the club to retain emerging wing Ausar Thompson. If healthy, Leonard would rank among the most accomplished players ever to suit up for Detroit.
Last season, the forward averaged 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 50.5 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from three, and 89.2 percent at the free-throw line. He appeared in 65 games, his highest total in several years.
How it could benefit Los Angeles
For the Clippers, the proposed package would provide multiple rotation pieces, a promising prospect in Holland, a future first-rounder, and significant financial flexibility. Leonard is entering the final season of his contract and is slated to earn $50.3 million in 2026-27.
No indications have surfaced that the Clippers are currently shopping Leonard, and the trade remains purely speculative. Still, with Los Angeles no longer viewed as a clear championship favorite, scenarios involving the six-time All-Star are expected to remain a topic of offseason discussion.
