The Oklahoma City Thunder are expected to adjust their roster after failing to repeat as NBA champions, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

League executives contacted by Stein do not anticipate Oklahoma City will pursue Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, despite the Thunder’s second-round exit. That view aligns with earlier reporting from Sam Amick of The Athletic. Front-office sources pointed to president of basketball operations Sam Presti’s long-term approach and concern that a high-profile acquisition could disrupt the culture he has cultivated.

Mobley interest dates back to 2021 draft

Amick previously noted chatter regarding Oklahoma City’s interest in Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley. Stein reports the Thunder attempted to obtain the No. 3 pick in the 2021 draft to select the former USC standout, but Cleveland declined. Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman recently labeled Mobley—this season’s Defensive Player of the Year—“a huge part of what we do” and the team’s most consistent playoff performer.

Hartenstein expected to stay

The Thunder hold a $28.5 million team option on center Isaiah Hartenstein for 2026-27. Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman and Stein both indicate the club is likely to decline the option and negotiate a new multiyear contract, keeping Hartenstein in Oklahoma City beyond next season.

Draft strategy could involve trade-up

Oklahoma City enters the 2026 draft with picks Nos. 12 and 17 and is considered aggressive in exploring trade scenarios. While multiple teams believe the Thunder could target Duke forward Cameron Boozer, Stein notes that Washington, Utah, Memphis and Chicago are intent on holding their top-four selections. Scouts cited Spanish center Aday Mara as a more attainable trade-up candidate for the Thunder.

The Thunder advanced to the Western Conference finals despite injuries to Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell, reinforcing Presti’s confidence in the team’s core as offseason decisions approach.
