Mavericks: Dramatic Reset Around Anthony Davis
Twelve months removed from a Finals appearance built around Luka Doncic, Dallas finds itself with a completely different core. General manager Nico Harrison sent Doncic to Los Angeles for Anthony Davis in February, then watched Kyrie Irving suffer a torn ACL. Despite the upheaval, the Mavericks secured the No. 1 overall pick and selected high-school phenom Cooper Flagg, a stroke of lottery luck ESPN says prevented the club from plummeting in its projections. Warriors: Veteran Window Nearing Its End
Golden State’s future also raises questions. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and newly acquired Jimmy Butler are all 35 or older and under contract for only two more seasons. ESPN notes the trio carried the Warriors to a 20-7 post-All-Star surge and a first-round win over Houston, but warns the franchise could face a steep decline once Curry’s era closes.
Timberwolves: Rising Stars, Tight Resources
Minnesota has reached consecutive Western Conference finals and ranks seventh in ESPN’s player score, led by Anthony Edwards and a deep supporting cast. Off the court, however, the organization sits in the bottom tier for financial flexibility, draft capital and market size, limiting avenues for roster upgrades. With free-agency options narrow and lottery luck unlikely, pressure falls on first-round picks Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. to become reliable contributors.
