Victor Wembanyama could not hide his feelings Sunday night after the San Antonio Spurs won a decisive Game 7 and advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time in the 22-year-old star’s career.

Television cameras caught the 7-foot-4 center tearing up as the final horn sounded, prompting an on-court embrace from teammates and coaches. The celebration continued in the locker room, where Wembanyama, still visibly emotional, thanked the group that helped deliver the franchise’s first Finals appearance since the Gregg Popovich era’s last title run.

“This means everything,” he told reporters amid the postgame festivities, adding that reaching the league’s biggest stage had been his goal since arriving in San Antonio as the No. 1 overall pick three years ago.

The victory capped a hard-fought best-of-seven series and set up a championship matchup that will begin later this week. For Wembanyama, Sunday’s win marked the latest milestone in a rapid rise that has made him the centerpiece of the Spurs’ rebuilding project.
