The Golden State Warriors may be easing off their long-standing urgency to secure another major acquisition, according to ESPN reporter Anthony Slater.
Speaking on “The Ryen Russillo Podcast,” Slater said the front office appears “less thirsty” for a splashy offseason move as it navigates the later years of Stephen Curry’s career. “They’re just kind of trying to guide out the Steph Curry era while protecting the future,” Slater explained.
Roster and Contract Questions
Curry, still among the league’s elite, will turn 39 next season. Forward Draymond Green is heading into his age-37 campaign, and veteran guard Jimmy Butler, 36, is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in late January.
The team must also decide whether to re-sign free-agent center Kristaps Porzingis, acquired last season in the trade that sent Jonathan Kuminga to Atlanta.
No. 11 Pick Could Stay Put
Golden State owns the No. 11 selection in next month’s NBA Draft. Slater indicated growing internal belief that the club may keep the pick rather than package it in a larger trade.
Green Tempers Expectations
During an appearance on ESPN’s “Inside the NBA,” Green hinted at a realistic shift in goals. “Success may not be, for us at this point, a championship,” he said. “It may not be realistic for us to win a championship.”
While the comments stop short of conceding contention, they suggest the Warriors are beginning to balance immediate ambition with long-term planning as the core ages.
