New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has fractured the pinky finger on his right hand, The Athletic reported earlier this week. The club has not provided a timetable for his return, leaving his availability for the upcoming NBA Finals in doubt.

The 7-foot big man suffered the injury under undisclosed circumstances, according to reporters James L. Edwards III and Fred Katz. ESPN and other outlets later confirmed the diagnosis.

New York opens the Finals on Wednesday against either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs. Whether Robinson will be healthy in time remains unclear.

Key contributor all season

Robinson, 28, appeared in 60 regular-season games in 2025-26—his highest total since 2021-22. He averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 0.9 steals in 19.6 minutes, leading the league in offensive-rebound percentage and ranking fourth in offensive boards per game at 4.2.

During the playoffs, the center has played in 13 of New York’s 14 contests, though his minutes have dipped to 14.2 per game as opponents have repeatedly sent him to the foul line. He is shooting 30.2% on 3.3 free-throw attempts while contributing 5.3 points and 5.5 rebounds.

Potential replacements

If Robinson is sidelined, head coach Tom Thibodeau could turn to second-year center Ariel Hukporti or fourth-year forward Jeremy Sochan to absorb frontcourt minutes.

Contract situation

The former 36th overall pick has spent his entire eight-year career with the Knicks. Robinson will become an unrestricted free agent this summer unless he and the team agree on a veteran extension before July.

The Knicks have not announced further updates on Robinson’s status.
