The California Post on May 28, 2026, released an editorial outlining its voting decisions for the NBA’s annual regular-season awards, asserting that Los Angeles Lakers players received the appropriate number of votes and that additional support for Luka Doncic or J.J. Redick was not warranted.

The newspaper stated that its ballot reflected on-court production across the full season and emphasized that no franchise was favored or penalized. According to the article, the Lakers’ representation on categories such as Most Valuable Player and All-NBA teams matched the club’s overall performance.

Responding to criticism that Doncic and Redick deserved stronger consideration, the editorial maintained that their seasons did not surpass the achievements of players who finished ahead of them in the voting.

The NBA will announce award winners next month.
