The Brooklyn Nets were placed at the center of a theoretical blockbuster during an ESPN segment that explored ways the franchise could accelerate its rebuild.

Under the proposed scenario, Brooklyn would acquire Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams. In return, the Thunder would receive Denver Nuggets swingman Michael Porter Jr.—presumably rerouted by the Nets—along with several future first-round draft picks.

ESPN analyst Bobby Marks highlighted Brooklyn’s urgency to improve quickly, noting that the Houston Rockets hold swap rights on the Nets’ 2027 first-round selection. Finishing near the bottom of the standings again could therefore provide little benefit to Brooklyn.

Williams, 22, has emerged as a key two-way piece for Oklahoma City. Despite intermittent injuries this season, he is averaging 17.1 points, 5.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds while playing a significant role in the Thunder’s rise up the Western Conference standings.

The discussion was purely hypothetical; no indications suggest either team is engaged in trade talks. Given Oklahoma City’s current championship timeline and Williams’ importance to that outlook, it remains uncertain whether the Thunder would entertain moving him.
