The Cleveland Cavaliers do not plan to make a change in their front office after being swept by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals, league sources told Hoops Wire.
According to those sources, president of basketball operations Koby Altman is expected to retain his position. Team ownership is reportedly showing no signs of pursuing a replacement, even after a disappointing postseason exit that came with the NBA’s highest payroll.
Altman, who has run the Cavaliers’ basketball operations department since 2017, guided the franchise through its rebuild following LeBron James’ departure. He has assembled a core featuring Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, and most recently James Harden.
The club reached the conference finals for the first time since 2018, but the manner of the loss generated frustration throughout the organization. Despite that setback, multiple league insiders describe Altman’s standing internally as strong.
The offseason is expected to be active, with evaluations underway on roster construction, potential free agents, and extension candidates. Even with change on the horizon for the roster, the expectation remains that Altman will oversee the next phase as Cleveland attempts to meet its preseason goals in 2024-25.
